Presumably, Microsoft will offer different versions of Office 2019 (including a version for the Apple Mac), but executives didn’t say. Microsoft calls Office 2019 a suite of “perpetual” apps.

With its Mac Business Unit, Microsoft has maintained a dedicated development team for its Mac software which has spearheaded development of Office 2004, 2008, and the latest 2011 and 365 offerings. With this development, those who use Office 2008 will still be able to do so, but will not be able to get any official support for the program from Microsoft. Additionally, while no new patches for the software will be available after this date, current ones will continue to be available on Microsoft's site until April 19, 2014. This announcement does not mean you have to upgrade your version of Office right away, but Microsoft is encouraging Office 2008 users to try Office 365, which comes with a subscription at $100 per year or $10 per month. In addition, Microsoft is offering its latest standalone Office 2011 suite for between $140 and $220.

That versions 15.34 and earlier are not supported, and you may not be able to launch the apps. You are advised to update to 15.35 or later, but even that’s no guarantee. Not all Office functionality may be available, and you may encounter stability problems where apps unexpectedly quit. During the beta period for macOS 10.13 High Sierra, no formal support is available for this Office configuration. We strongly recommend that you back up your existing data before trying the software. If you encounter issues using Office 2016 for Mac on High Sierra, please send us feedback so we can address them. The company also advises that support for the 2011 suite ends next month – including security updates.

All applications in the Office for Mac 2011 suite are reaching end of support on October 10th, 2017. As a reminder, after that date there will be no new security updates, non-security updates, free or paid assisted support options or technical content updates.
