I use the universal printer driver for our eStudio series machines. Department codes have been the bane of my existence. Great idea in theory, but I'm constantly battling with them. For instance, the driver defaults to 'auto' instead of black and white or color. Well, that, of course, annoys the users because if even one character is in color, they have to enter their department code, and even then, they didn't want to print in color in the first place(nor does the company want people to do so on everything). So, I go to the print server and set the default to black and white.

If they want to print in color, they have to select it themselves. Which works fine usually. Then, once every two or three months, the driver reverts back to 'auto.'

I don't know why. Toshiba doesn't know why. Jffnuggets wrote: afeitguy - Thanks for the share. I'm trying to give it some positive aura to stay on each other's good side.

Even my predecessor said he thinks they just left it like that since it just worked, while they wrestled much with it before. I'm also new with Toshibas, never touched or seen them in all my career - been mostly HP/Xerox, with some Lexmark/Ricoh. This is my first job that had Toshibas as well.

I have three of them. Two of them are absolute workhorses, the other one needs service calls all the time.

They almost never jam. Something I just got used to with other brands. But, the department code thing drives me insane. It's a love/hate relationship, for sure. Schoo: Thank you so much for contributing! Three years on, I continue to struggle with our Toshibas on and off.

I have a major issue going on at the moment, actually. The department code is just not publishing for the users. It is set up on the print server in printing defaults. When the printer maps for the users via GPO, all other features are there - black/white, duplex, etc - but the department code is blank.

I have now also set the tcp/ip port to lpr and set queue name to print, as you stated. Also, I've ensured that the snmp community name matches on the port settings, in the printing defaults options, as well as in the printer's own config portal under 'SNMP Network Service'. Using the latest TUP2 driver, version 7.170.3811.0. On the client, I purge the local drivers folder. When it restarts, the printer remaps.

Still, no department code showing. Thanks for any insight!
