I have an ASUS PCE-N53 WLAN Adapter and the most up to date drivers provided by the ASUS website. Right now I am running Windows 8 Pro and have been trying to do the 8.1 update but always get a BSOD IRQLNOTLESSTHANOREQUAL error.

I am pretty sure after looking at the memory.dmp that it is the netr28x.sys driver that my WLAN card uses. I was wondering if anyone has found a work around for this? I would normally just uninstall the card and do things over Ethernet but we are re-wiring the house right now and I don't have that option. I am posting the memory.dmp files through SkyDrive. These are the actual DMP files, please use whatever debugger you think is appropriate.

I talked to ASUS Support and they said they could only provide the driver I already had. The guy on the other end said that they weren't developing any drivers for 8.1 so I am hoping I can use a generic driver from somewhere. Here is the link to the shared SkyDrive files. Note that the MEMORY-jack.DMP is compressed Remember to select 'Mark as Answer' for any reply that provided a solution.

After calling ASUS 4 times! I finally got someone who knew what they were talking about.

Apparently the new drivers for the PCE-N53 are included in the new version of the ASUS WLAN Utility. If you are having this problem you have probably seen your driver version as 5.0.25.0 and your utility version a 1.0.0.9. Go to the ASUS website here and download the newest utility, version 1.0.1.0.

With the utility you get the 5.0.34.1 Drive from Ralink. Don't know why it took so long for someone from ASUS to let me know that there was another driver out there. Not only that I've even received messages claiming that their R&D team were working on it.heh! Now I just have to figure out why Symantac Firewall isn't working. I guess they still haven't patched it up. Remember to select 'Mark as Answer' for any reply that provided a solution.

I've looked at the driver store you have suggested and it does have a Windows 8.1 driver however the chipset I have does not appear on any of their lists. The chipset the PCE-N53 uses is Ralink RT5592. Even though this is one of the newer chipsets I cant seem to find any drivers for it. I have scoured the internet and for some reason cant find any drivers for the chipset, let alone Windows 8.1 drivers. Any suggestions on how I should proceed? I have tried installing the Windows 8.1 driver however I get a BSOD before it finishes installing.

I was considering doing the update over Ethernet with the card uninstalled and then trying to re-install it with the Windows 8.1 driver. Do you think that will work? Remember to select 'Mark as Answer' for any reply that provided a solution.

This is the response from Asus support. Looks like the temporary work around is to 'remove' the device or dont upgrade at all Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for contacting ASUS Service Care. My name is Stephen and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem. We apologize for the delayed response due to the weekend.

Sorry, temporary have no win8.1 version driver for the PCE-N53. Now just can support win8 version driver for it.

The technology team and R&D team is researching and building win8.1 version driver for the product which can support win8 OS. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for understanding! Thank you for your support Asus product. Wish you have a good day. Best regards Stephen ASUS service center. After calling ASUS 4 times!

I was having the same symptoms after upgrading to Windows 8.1 with the Asus N53 Wireless Card (couldn't upgrade with it in, after upgrading, kept crashing with the card installed). I have a solution that worked for me that's slightly different than the above.

Drivers

On, Asus released a driver for 8.1 at the same link posted earlier. I did not see any WLAN Utility there, but the driver files were.

I extracted the files, manually installed the driver without the card installed (right click.inf file, choose 'install') and booted with the card installed, no issues. I verified in Device Manager, all is OK.
